Dr. Sebastian Baumgaertel

Dr. Baumgaertel has lectured worldwide on various orthodontic topics including orthodontic mini-implants and cone beam computed tomography. He has published multiple scientific articles and acts as a reviewer for a number of high-profile journals (e. g. American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics). Additionally, he is author and co-editor of two textbooks.

Dr. Baumgaertel is a Clinical Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, where he serves as Director of the subspecialty clinic for skeletal anchorage and instructor of the orthodontic biomechanics course. Dr. Baumgaertel also maintains an active private practice in the Cleveland, OH area. In addition, he is a Visiting Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Prof. Dr. Med. Dent. Moschos A. Papadopoulos

Dr. Papadopoulos is Professor, Chairman and Program Director at the Department of Orthodontics of the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, President of the Orthodontic Society of Northern Greece, and Honorary Editor of the “Hellenic Orthodontic Review“. He has served as a Member of the Editorial Board of 17 peer reviewed journals, and as Referee of 39 orthodontic, dental and medical journals. He received several awards and distinctions, among others the “Joseph E. Johnson Clinical Award“ and the “Turpin Award for Evidence-Based Research“ from the AAO, and he is also the inventor of amda®. Dr. Papadopoulos has written the books “Orthodontic treatment for the Class II non-compliant patient“, “Skeletal anchorage in orthodontic treatment of Class II malocclusion“, and “Cleft lip and palate: Diagnosis and treatment management“, has published more than 190 scientific publications, and has presented more than 310 lectures, courses and papers worldwide.


The tomas® System and the advanced molar distalizing appliance amda®: Philosophy, Concepts, Techniques

The tomas® System is an internationally market-leading miniscrew system and has recently been expanded by development of the advanced molar distalizing appliance amda®. In this one-of-a-kind course, you will have the opportunity to learn from two leading authorities in the field of orthodontic skeletal anchorage how to use the tomas® System to its full potential. The content of this course has never been taught before in this comprehensive and detailed format. Dr. Baumgaertel will teach you everything you need to know to successfully use the tomas® pin, including but not limited to miniscrew design and selection, insertion sites, use of TAD supported expanders, loading protocol and biomechanics. In addition, Dr. Baumgaertel will share with you his ‘target sites’, which are insertion sites that will deliver tremendous success rates for miniscrews, even for beginners.

Prof. Papadopoulos will discuss the basic principles of noncompliance maxillary molar distalization and will present the rationale of the use of miniscrew implants (TADs) for the comprehensive treatment of Class II malocclusion through a number of clinical examples. More specifically, his presentation will focus on amda® (advanced molar distalization appliance), which efficiently distalizes maxillary molars and retracts the anterior teeth, providing a complete and comprehensive orthodontic management of patients with Class II malocclusion.

As a very special treat for attendees, Dr. Baumgaertel will conduct the question and answer segment in Romanian language, where possible.
