Green IT: the green data center of the Dentaurum Group
Energy efficiency with eco-friendly information technology
The progressing digitalization changes our social and economic lives. Increasing demands for information storage and processing power are a continuous challenge for IT departments. The increasing use of information technology has a negative impact on our environment. The Dentaurum Group is well aware of this. Green information technology and eco-friendly use of information and communication technology are an important part of our company´s environmental management.
Servers and processors in data centers require special ambient conditions. Air conditioners constantly ensure the correct room temperature, which increases the energy demand in the server rooms. Under the motto Green IT, our IT staff is working on virtualizing the data processing center. The goal is to reduce the number of physical servers and therefore increase the capacity utilization of the remaining servers. This results in more efficient energy use. Bundling many small servers in a few large servers reduces complexity and improves infrastructure. Virtualizing the data processing center reduces power use and cooling energy due to reduced space and less heat production.
Another energy-saving measure is the centralization of all affiliate servers in Ispringen (Germany). The centralized servers are controlled and cared for by the data processing center of the Dentaurum Group in Ispringen. This optimizes costs, saves resources and is eco-friendly.
Due to the optimization measures in the Dentaurum IT department, CO2 emissions and energy costs are reduced long term. In a digital world, using Green IT can make in-company processes more economically and eco-friendly.
