International Training Course 2010

Apart from innovative, high-quality products, a distinctive feature of Dentaurum Implants is its first-class training programme. Last June an international audience from 17 different countries met in the Dentaurum Training Centre in Ispringen, Germany, to participate in the renowned scientific Training Course 2010.

In line with Dentaurum philosophy, during the course participants not only attended specialised lectures but were also given the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues and instructors as well as sample an interesting social programme to get into the right mood for the congress. This year the social programme began with a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The centre of attraction in the museum was the history of the car and the development of the brand name from its origins to the modern day with the spotlight on many classic cars. After the impressive visit to the museum, the first day concluded with a substantial dinner in the Stuttgart city centre.

The International Training Course started the next day with scientific and practice-orientated lectures. The topics ranged from practical handling of possible complications that arise in the day-to-day routine of implant practice and minimally invasive techniques for conserving the alveolar ridge bone to contributions on augmentative procedures for the atrophied jaw bone. The instructors Dr. Sontheimer, renowned course leader and development adviser in implantology, and Prof. Dr. Dr. Wilfried Engelke, consultant in the Department of Dental Surgery at the University of Göttingen, Germany, and specialist for osteoplastic techniques in implantology, explained in dialogue with interested participants the topics covered in the lectures as well as other areas. Apart from the theoretical scientific aspects, the instructors also provided numerous tips on implantology in their lectures.

One of the highlights of the course was the live surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Engelke in which an open sinus lift was carried out on a patient. Highly detailed images of the surgery were shown with the aid of an endoscope from Karl Storz GmbH & Co KG, which greatly impressed the audience.

The balance between theory and practice is an important factor in training events from Dentaurum Implants. At the end of lecturers there was a workshop to immediately reinforce the theoretical knowledge on artificial jaw bone acquired during the course and also convert it into practical skills. At the beginning of training different rotationplasty and augmentative techniques were presented step by step via a table demonstration by Prof. Dr. Dr. Engelke, so that the participants could then perform the techniques themselves under the supervision of other instructors.

The many positive responses from the participants (training grade of 1.5 on a scale of 1 – 5 [1 being the top grade]) encourage the team from Dentaurum Implants to offer this training concept of scientific lectures, practical hands-on exercises using high-quality models and an attractive social programme again in 2011. Dentaurum will hold its next training event in the advanced training series in December 2010 in the Hotel Estrel in Berlin.
