Relaunch of the tomas®-system

The tomas®-system has been one of the leading skeletal anchorage systems for many years. Users value its easy, clearly structured handling and high reliability. Now the system is being relaunched and its brand image has undergone a complete facelift. New components and indications have also been integrated.

From July 2016, the new tomas®-pin EP (Elastic Palatal) and a selection of new abutments are available for direct and indirect coupling, extending thereby the range of treatment possibilities with the tomas®-system, especially its use in the palate. The popular tomas®-auxiliaries portfolio has also been revised and is now available in a new arrangement.

tomas®-pin EP / SD
At the heart of the tomas®-system are the two pins tomas®-pin SD (Self Drilling) and tomas®-pin EP. They can be inserted either between the roots in the vestibular area, in the palatal region or directly on the alveolar ridge, for example as a temporary implant. The tomas®-pin head serves as an anchorage point for the various coupling elements to move teeth or to support tooth movement.

The tomas®-pin SD has a 22 cross slot so the pin head can also serve as a standard bracket during treatment. The coupling elements (square wires, springs etc.) can be fixed using a drop of adhesive which can easily be removed with Weingart pliers when treatment has finished. The mushroom-shaped head of the new tomas®-pin EP means it is ideally suited for attaching elastic elements (for example springs, elastic rings, chains).

Available in different lengths
Both versions of the tomas®-pin are available in 6, 8 und 10 mm length and can be delivered either sterile or non-sterile. The self-drilling thread eliminates the need for any pre-drilling, although it may prove necessary to perforate the cortical bone. After half a turn, the pin tip penetrates the bone without the need for excessive force.

The gingival collar is conical-shaped and is machine-polished. It allows optimal, close gingival adaptation, thereby preventing unwelcome irritation to the gingiva. This, in turn, guarantees a high level of primary stability in the bone.

Both pins have a hexagon over which the abutments can be slid and locked in place by means of an innovative snap mechanism. The tomas®-abutments can be rotated by 360° which means that deviations in the axes of two pins inserted parallel to one another can be compensated.

The final position is fixed using Weingart pliers. With the new tomas®-transfer caps and the tomas®-laboratory pins, the appliance can also be easily assembled in the laboratory. Be it distalization, mesialization, intrusion, palatal expansion or indirect anchorage: tomas® offers a complete system for these indications. It has something to offer both the beginner and the professional in skeletal anchorage systems.

From July 2016, there is also another addition to our portfolio – the amda® appliance. Together with the tomas®-pin EP, amda® (advanced molar distalization appliance) offers the optimal solution for the bi- or unilateral distalization of upper molars.
