For importing a new model in the orthoX® file database the orthoX® file must either be opened
The input window then guides you step by step through the input process.
The current status of the Assistant can be saved at any time and further processed at a later stage.
If the orthoX® file was started via the interface of your patient management
system, the fields are already automatically completed.
If the orthoX® file was started via the program icon and starting the
Assistant , the information will have to be entered manually in the
Click on “Next” to proceed to the next stage.
More detailed information about the model is recorded in the “Model data” input window, e.g.:
At the “Import” step already existing STL data can be loaded in the orthoX® file, or new STL data of a model / set of models can be created with the aid of the orthoX® scan. During scanning it is possible to choose between the options “Scan Single Jaw” or “Scan Model”.
In the following Video we Show you how to scan of sets of models
Fix the upper model in position on the model holder and place the model holder in the correct position in the 3D model scanner orthoX® scan. Close the cover and start the procedure by clicking on “Scan Maxilla”.
After completion of the scan procedure, a green tick appears in the field “Scan Maxilla”. A prompt will be displayed to place the mandibula in the scanner. Remove the maxilla from the model holder and place the mandibula in position. Start the scan procedure of the lower model by clicking on the field “Scan Mandibula”.
After completion of the scan procedure a green tick appears in the field “Scan Mandibula”. Continue to the so-called vestibular scan. Fix the upper model in occlusion with the lower model in position on the model holder and place the model holder in the correct position in the 3D model scanner orthoX® scan . Close the cover and start the scan procedure by clicking on “Scan Complete”.
The field “Scan Complete” changes during scanning and a status bar appears, which displays the progress of the scan procedure. After completion of the scan procedure, a green tick appears in the field “Scan Complete”.
Close the scanning procedure by clicking “OK” and continue to the next step.
After scanning, there is the option of cutting the model (= segmenting). Clicking on “Next” skips segmentation of the model. Clicking on “Segment Model” continues the program to the selection window for segmenting the model.
First, the upper model is called up and cut by clicking on “Segment Maxilla”.
By clicking on the “Select Region” button the excess areas of the model scan can then be removed and the dental arch optimally trimmed to size.
The lower model can be called up and cut in the second step. The lower model can be cut in the same way as the upper model by clicking on “Segment Mandibula”.
Then confirm with “OK”.
If “Embed Model” has been selected, the models can be aligned threedimensionally here according to orthodontic planes (occlusal, midpalatal and tuber plane).
Start with the “Occlusal Plane”:
Determine this using 3-point contact. The program already provides 3 virtual contact points for this that can be moved individually using the mouse.
Clicking on “Median Plane” or “Next” takes the program to the next step. The anterior and posterior reference points of the “midpalatal raphe plane” on the upper model can be defined by keeping the “Arrow key up” and the left mouse pressed.
The next step is reached by clicking on “Tuber plane” or “Next”. The tuber plane is defi ned by turning the mouse wheel. If required, the image can be “zoomed” larger by keeping the “Arrow key up” pressed and turning the mouse wheel.
Clicking on “Model Base” or “Next” takes the program to the next step. Here you select the optimum size of the base form according to the size of the model via the drop-down selection. With the selection of the base form the set of models are automatically fi tted in the respective selected base. The set of models can be moved sagittally using the mouse wheel. If required, the image can be “zoomed” larger by keeping the “Arrow key up” pressed and turning the mouse wheel. The whole Segmentation lines can be moved using the “Arrow keys up / down”. Any point of the segmentation lines can be adapted / corrected and also new intermediate points can be placed using the left mouse key.
By clicking on “Embed Model” the basing is closed by filling the spaces (segmentation lines and margins of the base form). Clicking “OK” takes the program to the next working step.
For reliable identifi cation the model can be engraved permanently. Click on “Engrave Model” and then continue with “Engrave Upper Jaw” or “Engrave Lower Jaw” to label the respective model.
The position and size can be defi ned by clicking on “Select Region”: The labelling can be turned using the left mouse key; using the right mouse key the labelling can be moved and it can be enlarged or reduced by turning the mouse wheel. The procedure is closed by clicking on “OK” and the
program continues to the last step “Database sharing”.
The mandibula is also labelled in the same as the maxilla, if required.
Clicking on “Release Model” closes the digitisation of the models.
Please note that after confirming the database sharing it is no longer possible to make any changes to the models. The engraving can also no longer be altered / deleted.
