Site preparation

Site preparation

The bone is prepared corresponding to the selected pin (self-drilling SD or self-tapping ST). It is done in 3 steps. Gingiva punching (essential for ST, recommended for SD). Marking the compact bone (essential for ST, recommended for SD). Pilot drilling (essential for ST, recommended for SD).

Tissue Punch

A local or topical anesthetic should be administered to the insertion site. The mucosa is quickly and easily perforated at the marked site using the mucosal punch. The perforated mucosa is removed using tweezers or a sharp spoon.

Cortical bone perforation

A perforation is made in the cortical bone using the tomas®-round drill.

Pilot drilling

The relevant tomas®-drill (pilot drill) is used for drilling. The bone is predrilled at 800 rpm (max. 1500 rpm) using adequate cooling with a physiological saline solution (5°) to avoid thermal damage to the bone.
