Insertion preparation

Anesthesia

In the interradicular insertion of the tomas® pin the sensitivity of the periodont of the neighboring teeth should be maintained. For this reason the mucosa is anesthetized only superficially at the insertion point. For this purpose one can use surface anesthetics in gel form applied around 10 minutes before the insertion. A further possibility is local infiltration anesthesia.

Measurement of gingiva thickness

One measures the thickness of the gingiva at the insertion site with a pointed probe and a plugged on rubber ring. This information is required for the final determination of the screw length and when screwing in the tomas® pins.

Verification of insertion site

The insertion site is determined during treatment planning using radiographs, models and clinical findings. The insertion site can be easily and accurately marked using the tomas®-X marker.
